Poly Tubing

Tuosheng Packaging manufactures poly tubing, also called lay flat tubing: a continuous tube of LDPE or HDPE film wound on a roll. Cut it to length and heat-seal one or both ends, and one roll gives you bags or sleeves of any length. Tubing is the first stage of our own bag production, made from 0.01 mm (10 µm) up to 0.2 mm (200 µm) thick, with 0.05 mm (about 2 mil) as our standard, in clear, colored or printed film.

Thickness

Which Poly Tubing Thickness Do You Need?

Start with our standard 0.05 mm (about 2 mil) tubing for most packing jobs. Go thinner, down to 0.01 mm in HDPE, for light items where cost per meter matters most. Go thicker, up to 0.2 mm, for long, heavy or sharp-edged goods.

Poly tubing thickness by use
Thickness US units Typical use Note
0.01–0.025 mm approx. 0.4–1 mil Light items, inner wraps and dust protection Thin tubing is made in HDPE
0.05 mm approx. 2 mil Parts, textiles and custom-length bags Our standard thickness
0.075–0.1 mm approx. 3–4 mil Pipes, rods, profiles and heavier parts Common for shipping and industrial use
Up to 0.2 mm approx. 8 mil Heavy or abrasive goods Our maximum thickness

The typical uses are common market references, not fixed rules. Send us the product, its weight and how it is shipped, and we will suggest a thickness and send samples to test.

How do you measure the lay-flat width of poly tubing?

Lay-flat width is the width of the tube when it lies flat, which is half its circumference. For a box-shaped product, the lay-flat width must be at least the product’s width plus its height; for a round product, at least 1.6 times its diameter. Add a little extra so the product slides in easily.

Send us the product size, or the tubing width you use now, and we will confirm the width and roll length. For box-shaped goods, gusseted tubing or a gusseted poly bag fits better.

Plain or gusseted poly tubing: which do you need?

Plain tubing lies flat as two layers of film, so it suits flat, long or round products such as textiles, pipes, rods and cables. Gusseted tubing has its sides folded in, so it opens into a square shape and fits box-shaped goods and cartons better.

For material, LDPE tubing is softer, clearer and more puncture resistant, while HDPE tubing is stiffer and can be made thinner for light items. If you are not sure, send us the product and we will suggest a style, material and thickness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is poly tubing?

Poly tubing is polyethylene film made as a continuous tube and wound flat on a roll. It is also called lay flat tubing. You cut it to the length you need and heat-seal the ends to make a bag or sleeve.

What is poly tubing used for?

It is used to make bags of any length on site, and to wrap long or odd-sized goods such as pipes, rods, profiles, cables and textiles. One roll replaces a stock of bags in many different lengths.

What is lay-flat width?

Lay-flat width is the width of the tube when it lies flat, which is half its circumference. For a box-shaped product it should be at least the product’s width plus its height.

What thickness is your poly tubing?

Our standard is 0.05 mm (50 µm, about 2 mil). We make tubing from 0.01 mm, for thin HDPE tubing, up to 0.2 mm for heavy goods.

Can you make gusseted or perforated tubing?

Yes. Gusseted tubing and perforation are both made to your specification. Send us the width, gusset depth and perforation you need.

Can you make colored or printed tubing?

Yes. We make clear and colored tubing, and print it to your artwork, such as a logo, handling instructions or product codes.

What is your minimum order for poly tubing?

The minimum order is 3 tonnes. Tubing can be loaded in the same container as our stretch film, poly bags and other products.

What core size do you use?

Our standard paper core is 76 mm (3 in). Roll length or roll weight is set to your requirement.
